The successor to coach Park Hang-seo was former Japan national team coach Philip Troussier.
The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) announced on its official website on the 16th that “Trussier will lead the Vietnam national team A and the U-23 national team.” His contract is for three years, until July 2026.
Head coach Park Hang-seo안전놀이터 resigned as head coach of Vietnam after the AFF Cup in January. VFF selected Troussier, who had previously coached Vietnam’s U-18 national team in 2019.
Coach Troussier led the Japanese national team in the 2000s and achieved decent results. He won the 2000 Asian Cup and advanced to the round of 16 at the 2022 Korea-Japan World Cup. Besides Japan, he has also directed South Africa, Nigeria and Qatar.
Meanwhile, coach Park, who stepped down as coach of the Vietnamese national team, plans to continue his leadership career. Director Park, who entered through Incheon International Airport on the 14th, said, “He thinks he can work in the field for about two to three more years.”
