Ohtani batted second and started the Angels’ Major League Baseball home game against the Seattle Mariners, a 3-5 loss, at Angels Stadium in California, U.S., on April 4 (local time). He lasted just four innings as a pitcher before being removed with right hand cramps, but as a hitter, he hit a solo shot to tie the game at 2-2 in the eighth inning. Ohtani, who leads the National League in home runs, hit his 40th of the season to move three ahead of second-place Matt Olson (37-Atlanta Braves).
Ohtani, who went 2-for-2 with a double, two walks and one RBI, struck out four in four scoreless innings on the mound. He also surpassed 600 career strikeouts (601).
