Shohei Ohtani’s historic performance the day before earns him a spot in the starting lineup.
Los Angeles Angels slugger Shohei Ohtani has been named to the starting lineup for the Angels’ two-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on Monday (April 29).
The previous day, Ohtani pitched a one-hit shutout in game one of a doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers and hit a multi-homer game as the designated hitter in game two. A one-hit shutout and multiple home runs in the same day is a feat that has only happened twice in Major League Baseball history since 1900.
The trouble came after the second home run. While rounding the bases, Ohtani grabbed his side and complained of discomfort, and was removed from the game in his next at-bat. The Angels announced that Ohtani was removed due to muscle spasms.
Ohtani returned to the lineup without a day’s rest.
“He’s fine,” Angels manager Phil Nevin said in a pregame interview. Yesterday was a simple muscle cramp,” he said before the game, emphasizing that Ohtani was fine.
He revealed that he had spoken to Ohtani that morning and said, “He said he was 100 percent and ready to play. “He said he was 100 percent and ready to play. It wasn’t a back or side issue, it was just a cramp, and he knows his body better than anyone,” Nevin said, reiterating that there was no problem.
“If he was playing defense, it might be a different story,” Nevin said. He knows how to conserve energy and he knows his body better than anybody, and it helps that he’s not fielding. It also helps that he doesn’t play defense. Anyway, he’s doing things we haven’t seen before, so everything he’s doing is shocking,” he said of Ohtani.바카라
“He’s a freak,” Toronto head coach John Schneider said of his opponent.
“He’s definitely different than any other player in this league, it’s just unbelievable. I can’t even imagine how he feels physically. Because just throwing is a huge thing. To add hitting and running to that,” he marveled.
