The Los Angeles Dodgers lost 2-4 to the Atlanta Braves in the first game of the 2023 Major League Baseball World Series at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California, USA, on March 3.
The Dodgers were led by Mookie Betts (second base), Freddie Freeman (first base), Will Smith (designated hitter), Max Muncy (third base), David Peralta (left field), Jason Heyward (right field), James Outman (center field), Miguel Rojas (shortstop), Austin Barnes (catcher), and starting pitcher Emmitt Sheehan.안전놀이터
Atlanta countered with Ronald Acuña Jr. (right field), Aji Alvis (second base), Austin Riley (third base), Matt Olson (first base), Marcell Osuna (designated hitter), Eddie Rosario (left field), Sean Murphy (catcher), Orlando Arcia (shortstop), Michael Harris II (center field), and starting pitcher Bryce Elder.
The teams traded one run in each of the first three innings. The Dodgers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning when Acuña Jr. hit a solo shot over the center field fence. In the bottom of the inning, the Dodgers loaded the bases with two singles and a walk, and when Smith hit a shortstop-second baseman-first baseman double play, Barnes scored from third to tie the game at 1-1.
From there, the teams battled back and forth, and the scoreboard remained blank. Unable to settle the score in regulation, the teams headed into extra innings, with the game coming down to the 10th.
In the top of the 10th, the Dodgers got a three-run home run from Arcia with runners on first and second to cut the lead to 4-1. In the bottom of the 10th, the Dodgers had a chance. They had runners on first and third with one out, but Muncy’s sacrifice fly scored the only run of the inning, leaving them down 2-4.
The Dodgers have now lost three of four at home against Atlanta since May 31. The Dodgers had the second-best winning percentage in the National League before this series, and Atlanta had the first-best winning percentage, so the matchup was widely expected to be a preview of the National League Championship Series.
However, after three of four games, the series has been one-sided in Atlanta’s favor. The Dodgers have been unable to mount a single comeback against Atlanta, dropping Game 1 (7-8), Game 2 (3-6), and Game 3 (2-4).
There are obvious differences between the regular season and fall baseball, but the Dodgers have a red light if they want to win the World Series. The World Series, the final stage of the postseason system, pits the best of both leagues against each other, and even if the two teams meet in the Championship Series, there’s no way the Dodgers can beat Atlanta at this rate.
Meanwhile, Atlanta became the first team to reach the 90-win plateau this season with the win. They are 9-1 in their last 10 games and on a six-game winning streak and are on pace to win their second World Series in two years.
