Kim Ha-seong (28, San Diego Padres) went hitless again for the second time in three games.
Kim went 0-for-4 at the plate in the leadoff spot in the Padres’ home game against the Philadelphia Phillies on June 6 at Petco Park in San Diego, California, USA. Unable to build on the momentum of his multi-hit performance the day before (2-for-6 with a double and three RBIs), Kim’s season batting average dropped from .275 to .273.
From his first at-bat, Kim struggled with the umpire’s questionable strike zone calls. After leading off the bottom of the first inning, Kim saw two pitches in a row from Philadelphia starter Michael Lorenzen. The second pitch was well outside the zone, but the umpire called it a strike. Working against the count, Kim fouled off a pitch to keep the game alive, but he fouled off a 1-2 changeup on the outside of the zone for a grounder to shortstop.
In his second at-bat of the inning, he wasn’t so lucky. With two outs and two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the inning, Kim saw a 95.7 mph (154 kilometers per hour) fastball right down the middle on a 1-2 pitch count and swung hard.
The line drive, which he thought would be a leadoff double, was caught by a leaping catch by Philadelphia shortstop Edmundo Sosa for the out. According to BaseballServant, Kim’s hit had an expected batting average (xBA) of 0.770, but the hit was wiped out by the rain.
In the fifth inning with the bases loaded, Kim worked a 3-1 count against Lorenzen, but he hit a five-pitch body sinker and fouled off the third baseman.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, with San Diego up 7-0 and runners in scoring position, Kim faced Lorenzen for the fourth time. With a 1-0 count and a two-pitch slider up the middle, Kim swung hard at the pitch, but it was hit into center field for an out.안전놀이터
