Matt Olsen (Atlanta Braves) surpassed Shohei Ohtani (LA Angels) to lead the home run alone.
Olsen recorded 3 hits (2 homers), 4 RBIs, 3 runs, 1 walk and 1 strikeout in 5 at-bats in the first game of the doubleheader against the 2023 Major League Baseball New York Mets held at Citi Field in Queens, New York, New York on the 13th (Korean time).안전놀이터
Olsen walked on base in his first at-bat. In his second and third at-bats, he struck out and a fly ball to center field respectively.
However, from the fourth at-bat, Olsen’s bat was burning hot. In the top of the 6th inning, leading 5-0, with one company on first and second base, he hit Reed Garrett’s 91.1 mile (approximately 146 km/h) slider coming toward him from the plate and hit it over the middle wall. It was the 41st home run of the season.
He then hit a home run in the top of the 8th inning, leading 11-0. He came out as the lead batter and had a game with pitcher Josh Walker, who had changed to the 7th pitch, and hit a 95.2 mile (approximately 153km/h) four-seam fastball and hit a left-handed home run. In the ninth, he hit a double against shortstop Danny Mendick, who came on the mound as a pitcher. Afterwards, he scored on Sean Murphy’s one RBI timely hit. Atlanta added 8 points only in the 9th inning and won by a large score of 21-3.
Olsen hit two home runs in a row and became the only major league leader in home runs. On the 11th, he hit a home run in the Pittsburgh Pirates expedition and tied for first place with Ohtani. Then, he beat Ohtani with two home runs in the game that day.
Olsen has consistently racked up home runs this season. Starting with 8 home runs in April, he hit 9 home runs in May, 11 home runs in June, and 8 home runs in July. In August, he hit 6 home runs in 12 games. His performance is 119 hits, 42 home runs, 105 runs batted in, 92 runs batted in, batting average of 0.270 OPS 0.993.
On the other hand, Ohtani lost his home run pace and gave Olsen the top spot in home runs overall. He drew a whopping 15 home run arches last June alone. In the following July, he hit 9 home runs and his momentum seemed unabated, but the home run news was quiet from August. He hit just one home run in 11 games.
After hitting a home run in a home game against the Seattle Mariners on the 4th, he failed to hit a home run in eight consecutive games. He still leads the American League in home runs, but the overall lead has passed to Olsen.
