Houston Astros right-hander Luis Garcia is undergoing Tommy John surgery.
Astros general manager Dana Brown reported Garcia’s surgery through a press release on the 6th (hereafter Korean time).
Garcia took 스포츠토토the mound in the home game against the San Francisco Giants on the last two days, but after throwing 8 balls, he felt something wrong with his elbow and went down the mound. In the end, it turned out that the problem could be solved through surgery.
Garcia had a 4.00 ERA (12 earned runs in 27 innings) in the preceding five games. He recorded 13 scoreless innings in his previous two appearances, but was hindered by an injury.
In his last big league debut in 2020, he went 28-19 with a 3.61 earned run average in 69 games. He placed second in the 2021 Rookie of the Year voting.
He pitched in eight career games in the postseason, giving up 15 runs in 23 1/3 innings. In Game 6 of the 2021 Championship Series, he contributed to the team’s advance to the World Series by pitching 5 2/3 scoreless innings.
Houston lost Garcia following the departure of Jose Urquidi due to a shoulder injury, leaving a big hole in the starting lineup.
Currently, the remaining starters are Framber Valdez, Christian Javier, and rookies Hunter Brown and Brandon Bielac.
